Transit study must weigh funding issues

Public transportation needs in Grand Island have been debated for decades. Some advocates say the city needs more options for those who can’t drive themselves. Others contend that Grand Island isn’t big enough to pour more tax funds into public transportation. Hall County Public Transportation provides good service at a low cost, but has limited hours. Some needing public transportation feel stranded at night or on weekends. But there are no easy answers or options. Cab service or Uber drivers are additional resources, but the cost can be prohibitive for some. To look at all of these issues, the Grand Island Metropolitan Planning Organization is conducting a transit study, looking for ways to improve transportation services in Grand Island and Hall County.
